Near Record February snowfall fuels Maine's winter sports economy Posted: 02/28/2013

Portland, ME -- After enduring the Blizzard of 2013, this February will be remembered as one of the snowiest months in recent memory. Maine ski areas recorded more than five feet of snow during the month providing a big boost to business on the mountains and in nearby towns.  Portland recorded the third snowiest February on record, with 49.5" of snowfall.

A sampling of February snow totals from around the state include:

Bigrock, Mars Hill - 62"; Lost Valley, Auburn - 44"; Shawnee Peak, Bridgton - 50"; Sugarloaf, Carrabassett Valley - 60"; Sunday River, Newry - 56"; Saddleback, Rangeley - 65".

The L.L. Bean Bootmobile is coming to Bigrock Mountain! Posted: 02/18/2013
Mars Hill, ME -- From February 20 through February 23, the L.L.Bean Bootmobile will be making tracks throughout the County, visiting outdoor events and venues. First stop: Bigrock Mountain in Mars Hill! The Bootmobile visit coincides with the ski area's popular Free Ski Night, sponsored by TAMC, on Wednesday, February 20. The community is invited to take advantage of free lift tickets and reduced Snow School lesson rates from 3-8 pm, and to come see the Bootmobile in person, starting at 6:30 pm.

McCain Foods strengthens partnership with Bigrock Mountain to get more families outside and active Posted: 01/31/2013

Mars Hill, ME – “The McCain Foods Sunday Ski 4 Life Program, in no uncertain terms, is a groundbreaking effort,” according to Mark Shea, Marketing Manager at Bigrock Mountain.  “It provides an opportunity for Canadian students to become engaged in skiing or snowboarding like never before, at a very low cost.”

The program primarily targets beginners, but the multi-week structured lesson format offers something for all skiing and snowboarding abilities

Lessons will take place at Bigrock on Sunday mornings from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 Atlantic time. Participants will receive a lift ticket, rental equipment, and instruction – a package that normally costs $48 – for just $10 per visit.

Merry Christmas! Ski with Santa! Posted: 12/23/2012

Mars Hill, ME --  Santa took a break from his busy schedule today to visit Bigrock Mountain, and he brought us a new snow cannon!

Bigrock Mountain Report for Christmas Eve: 1" of new snow yesterday. Skiing and riding on 6 trail/3 lifts to start; we will open new terrain as soon as it has been checked by ski patrol. Snowmaking going strong on Family Trail, Family Access, Elbow and Uncle Bud's! Come ski and ride with Santa at 11am!
