OUR MISSION
Why Big Rock Exists
Big Rock exists to make incredible winter recreation accessible to kids and families across Northern Maine, regardless of what they can afford. We are a community-run nonprofit ski area, and every ticket, pass, lesson, volunteer hour and gift helps keep this mountain within reach for the next generation.

OUR MOUNTAIN. OUR COMMUNITY.
Built by a Community That Believes
For over 65 years, Big Rock Mountain has been a cornerstone of our region.
Generations of families from Northern Maine and across the border have grown up on these slopes, learning to ski, race, explore the outdoors and spend time together. Families can stay together throughout the day. Friends meet on the chairlift, regular guests and employees know each other by name, and volunteers work beside staff to keep the mountain moving. What began as a place to ski has become something much bigger: a community gathering place built around outdoor recreation.

AT THE CENTER OF OUR WORK
Ski4Life
Ski4Life is one of the clearest examples of why Big Rock matters.
Ski4Life provides transportation, equipment, instruction and lift access at a heavily subsidized rate. Three out of every five participants come from low-to-moderate income backgrounds, opening the door to children who might never otherwise get the chance to fall in love with the sport.
In 2025–26, Ski4Life welcomed more than 3,100 youth visits from schools, recreation departments, tribal groups, homeschool families and youth organizations across Northern Maine. Participation grew by more than 50%, but the impact goes well beyond the numbers: kids build confidence, independence, resilience and a sense that this mountain belongs to them too.
A COMMUNITY-RUN NONPROFIT
More Than Skiing
Big Rock is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Every ticket, season pass, rental, lesson, meal and donation helps support the people, equipment, programs and mountain improvements that keep winter recreation accessible in Northern Maine.
More than $6 million in recent community investment helped bring a new summit quad, dramatically expanded snowmaking, new grooming equipment and stronger youth programming to the mountain. Those improvements were not made for shareholders or private owners. They were made for kids, families and future generations who will learn to ski and ride here.
Come for the snow. Leave as part of Big Rock.
